I am so glad that you have taken the time to check out my site.
My Journey of becoming and being a psychologist has been an enlightening experience. As an undergraduate at the University of California, Santa Barbara I focused on the biological basis of psychology. Much of my coursework was geared towards learning about the brain and the intricacies of its functioning. While studying abroad in various countries I was able to take my understanding of the science and blend it to the experiences I was having with a wide arrange of cultures. Seeing the humanity around the world in the face of so many struggles is what lead me to pursing higher education in Clinical Psychology. I pursued and completed my PhD in Clinical Psychology at the California School of Professional Psychology. It was during this time that I began working in a community mental health setting. I continued in the community mental health setting for many years working with adults, children, and many wonderful families. Working in the community added a new dimension to my conceptualization of client care, the various systems that people need to function within. Without even noticing, we each spend so much time dancing between the systems of our lives: families, employment, social, and society at large. I believe the struggles that often lead to seeking therapy is due to a disconnect between our biology, mind, or systems.
All of the experiences that I have been fortunate to have continue to empower me and my work with my clients. I use a holistic approach and incorporate science, humanity, and the various cultural contexts when I work with a client. The interventions I use vary from psychodynamic to cognitive behavioral depending on the needs of the client at the different times of the therapeutic process. Above all else I believe that the humanistic approach is essential to reach ones goals.
